Youth Barriers to Transit

WTS (Women in Transportation Seminar) members and transportation planners, Morgan Huber and Aileen Carrigan, worked with GUB to identify a middle school teacher interested in engaging with them over 6 weeks to identify ways to make public transit more attractive, convenient, and enjoyable for young people. Centennial Middle School’s 6th grade mathematics teacher, Sophie Ramus, was an enthusiastic partner for the project. A total of 14 volunteers from the City of Boulder, RTD, City of Loveland, GUB, and local consulting firms, joined the classroom activities each week. Four student groups presented recommendations for making Boulder’s transit more attractive, safe, and fun for youth. A fifth group shared the results of a survey of their peers’ favorite transit improvement ideas (see report below). Parents, City staff, and project volunteers attended the student presentations on February 27, 2018.
