Parent Advocacy Group

Join us as we explore the creation of a new Parent Advocacy Group from 10 am - noon on Sunday, July 14th at the Boulder Jewish Community Center (Boulder JCC), 6007 Oreg Ave, Boulder.  While no child care will be provided, this is a child-friendly meeting (we will have toys).

Growing Up Boulder (GUB) is Boulder's child- and youth-friendly city initiative.  Since the needs of children are often expressed through their parents, we would like to support Boulder's parents in advocating for their families' needs to make Boulder a TRULY child-friendly city.  This group will likely focus on issues of the built environment.

This first meeting is an opportunity for parents to:
  • brainstorm areas of greatest concern/interest/advocacy related to children and families,
  • choose the first area(s) for focus, and
  • determine how to engage additional parents and how to connect to existing resources and parent advocacy efforts.

Based on GUB's conversations with parents, issues parents might take on include:
  • more outdoor play spaces with shade coverings,
  • more indoor play spaces for inclement weather, and
  • a child-friendly business recognition program (see Edmonton, Canada's example).

RSVP with the number of adults and children (and their ages), or ask questions, at: growingupboulder@gmail.com

The back of this shirt says, "A city friendly to children is a city friendly to all."

The front of the shirt shows that a city can be more friendly to children by offering opportunities for play, biking, and more.
*Growing Up Boulder (GUB) is Boulder's child-friendly city initiative. A formal partnership between the City of Boulder, Boulder Valley School District, and the University of Colorado, GUB became a nonprofit in spring 2021 under the fiscal sponsorship of the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center (CNDC). Since 2009, GUB has worked with over 7,500 children and youth on more than 100 projects.
