FAQs for Child-Friendly City Map
Q: Who created this map?
A: Growing Up Boulder, Boulder’s child-friendly city initiative based out of the Community Engagement Design and Research (CEDaR) Center at the University of Colorado Boulder, created the map. Our two part-time staff created the map in partnership with more than 40 groups throughout the city, including schools, nonprofits, city departments, and university departments. More than 700 children and caregivers provided input to the map!
Q: How is this map funded?
A: The map is funded through sponsorships, partnerships, and donations. We continue to look for sponsors, partners, and donors for the digital map and for the 2020 version of the printed map. Contact us at [email protected].
Q: How can we donate to the map?
A: Please donate directly through this page.
Q: We would like a similar map for our community; how do we do this?
A: We detail how we created the printed map through the Child-Friendly City Map Report on our website (see the Conclusions section), and we plan to hold a webinar on the map-making process within the next year. Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed about the webinar date.
Q: Is there a printed version of the map?
A: Yes, the printed Boulder Child-Friendly City map is free, bilingual (in Spanish), and available at kiosks, visitors’ centers, recreation locations, and businesses around Boulder.
Q: How can my organization sponsor the digital and/or printed map?
A: Please contact us at [email protected]. If you are a business and would like more complete information about your business listed on the map, please visit here to learn how.
Q:Why isn't more information listed about retail and food establishments?
A: Sponsorship opportunities exist for any for-profit organization wishing to share more information about its services on the map.
Q: Why are there only a few child-friendly restaurants or businesses on the map, and how were they chosen?
A: The retail and food establishments listed on the map were recommended by children and parents, and are not comprehensive. We would love to include more such locations on the map, but we don’t have the staff to do this. Ideally, we would develop criteria for child-friendly restaurants/businesses, and then assess them through an application process similar to what Edmonton, Canada has done. Please contact us if you want to lead this effort!
Q: Can you add X location to the map? Why is Y missing from the map? Z is incorrect.
A: Send us your recommendations, and we’ll do our best. This map is a living document, so it will evolve with your feedback. We know there will be errors, so you can help us fix them by letting us know when you find one. Please be patient, though, as we operate with only two, part-time staff and a changing group of undergraduate student interns.
Q: Can we send our photos of our family and friends at map locations around town?
A: We’d LOVE to have your photos! Share photos of you using the map by tagging them with #gubmap on Instagram @growing_up_boulder or Facebook @GrowingUpBoulder.
