Play Ranger Focus Group 2025

Youth Opportunity Program (YOP) Play Ranger Focus Group 2025

Picture
The Youth Opportunities Program (YOP) provides paid internships for Boulder teens across multiple City of Boulder departments, including Boulder Parks & Recreation (BPR) and Open Space & Mountain Parks (OSMP). During summer 2025, four interns supported nature play and connection activities as “Play Rangers” through both departments after a training led by Growing Up Boulder. At the end of the summer, the interns reflected on their experience and shared recommendations with City staff, including ideas for future teen positions and insights on nature hub design. This report summarizes their reflections, highlighting what worked well with the internship, what could be improved, and how the City can continue strengthening pathways for youth leadership and civic engagement.
