Growing Up Boulder is thrilled to announce our new calendar of events for families of children experiencing disability! Through Growing Up Boulder's work, parents of children experiencing disabilities in Boulder have repeatedly requested a "one stop shop" to find inclusive events. Growing Up Boulder's Family Inclusion Coordinator has now created this "one stop shop." Please contact Katie Harness-Hemmer (katie @growingupboulder.org) if your organization would like to add events to the calendar and/or to let us know how the calendar is working for your family.
Additional Resources that support kids with disabilities:
Sensory Backpack Available at University of Colorado, Boulder Museum of Natural History
Did you know that fidgeting helps with focus?
Do you sometimes find museums too loud?
Check out a sensory backpack during your visit with sound-dampening headphones, fidget tools, a textured seat, and a weighted lap pad. These things can feel calming for experiences that are overwhelming. You can keep these items with you during your visit and return them to the front desk before you leave. The CU Boulder Museum of Natural History is open and FREE 7 days a week.
Neurodiversity Community Center After School Program, Lafayette, CO
This program is for all kids from grades K-12 (or analogous ages for homeschoolers/unschoolers). Our fall 2024 program runs on Monday, Tuesday with two sessions each day: 4:00pm-5:00pm & 5:15pm-6:15pm. You can sign up for the earlier session, the later session, or both sessions - and for any day(s). Below you’ll see a different “sign up” button for each day.
We are also now offering one time drop- in sessions. Please sign up for a one-time drop-in session 24 hours in advance to help us with planning the appropriate materials :)
