Fourth Edition Coming Soon!

Picture
In the late spring of 2022, Growing Up Boulder in partnership with the Colorado Visitor Bureau will released the fourth edition of the child-friendly city map. By May, more than 6,000 child-friendly city maps were shared throughout the Boulder community as well as advertised statewide through the Colorado Parent Magazine.

About the Maps

In 2019, Growing Up Boulder embarked upon a year-long process to co-create the nation's first, printed, bilingual, child-friendly city map.  We did so with almost 800 children and families, half of whom were from underrepresented populations.  In May 2019, GUB published the first edition of the printed, bilingual, free map.  In October 2019, we published the second edition of the printed map.

In September 2019, GUB published a digital version of the child-friendly city map.  The digital child-friendly city map features even more locations than the printed map, and it offers child-friendly walking routes, biking routes, transit links, and child-created interactive map games.

Finally, in December 2019, GUB published a digital teen-friendly city map (targeting ages 11-18); this map was created by a team of University of Colorado Masters of the Environment students as their capstone project, under GUB's supervision.  The Masters students worked with more than 400 teens to co-create the map.

Growing Up Boulder's Child- and Teen-Friendly City Maps seek to educate and inspire children, families, and community organizations through the creation of maps co-created with young people and their families to highlight their favorite locations in Boulder. They promote the values of inclusion, diversity, community engagement, collaboration, and celebration.  By working with young people and their caregivers at their schools, homes, libraries, and out-of-school programs, we aim to reach a wide cross-section of Boulder's population. To learn more about the map-making process, visit this page.

Where to find the printed maps
Free printed maps are now available at locations such at the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Visitors' Center on the Pearl Street Mall, Chautauqua, recreation centers, Gateway Fun Center and more.
