Teen-Friendly Businesses

In 2011, teens conducted research through a youth-friendly business survey they designed to identify which businesses would hire minors and which ones use youth-friendly business policies and practices.  The teens also designed a database that catalogs which businesses hire teens as a public service to local youth.  High school students met weekly with an adult mentor and business owner, and created an application for youth-friendly business certification.  They piloted it with ten downtown businesses.
*Growing Up Boulder (GUB) is a child-friendly city initiative and partnership between the City of Boulder, Boulder Valley School District, and University of Colorado's Community Engagement Design and Research (CEDaR) Center.  Our programs have been including young people in city decision-making for more than 10 years.
