Desert Park Designed by Selena

Inspired after a viewing Mara Mintzer's TedTalk about Growing Up Boulder's work, five-year-old Selena of Dubai crafted her own model of a park. In her video, Selena shows us around the educational features of the park while teaching us about desert animals and the importance of recycling.

This is a tarantula seesaw.  The top tarantula is an adult, and the bottom one is a baby.

Watch this well-researched video by Selena as she explains the features of her park.  Not only is it educational, it's creative and so much fun!

This is a mural that features desert plants and animals.  A viewer would push a button to hear an explanation of the habitat!
*Growing Up Boulder (GUB) is a child-friendly city initiative and partnership between the City of Boulder, Boulder Valley School District, and University of Colorado's Community Engagement Design and Research (CEDaR) Center.  Our programs have been including young people in city decision-making for more than 10 years.
